Heater core replacement ?'s

I think my heater core is bad. I started to notice a wierd oily stain on my passenger carpet. Also, coolant is mysteriously disapearing. I did a search and I have some questions about it.

Does anything on the driverside have to be replaced or removed or otherwise worked on?

How much is the heater core?

What tools and supplies are needed?

Is it simply a bolt on and off procedure?

Thanks,

Matt

other than being harder than hell to get to it isn't hard job. call parts stores i nyour area for prices. i'd say 1/4 drive universal sockets will make life easier for you. it's mostly a passenger side/center sort of access, not driver side. read in your manual, it ought to have a pretty good R&R for the heater core.

I agree with ede, it isn't that complex of a job but it is a big PITA to get it in and out. Be careful not to bend the new heater core lines. They will bend pretty easy if you start pushing on it too hard and believe me you may get to the point where you just want to shove the thing as hard as you can. Don't do it. It isn't a job for a Preacher. WARNING!! A few choice words may be used in the installation of this product. That would be the label on the box when you buy a heater core.

Not a bad job at all, ede has it summed up pretty well, but to put it into perspective, I did mine about a week after hernia surgery, without causing myself any problems. I basically sat on the ground beside the car with the door open, and I could get to it all by just leaning a little bit into the car.

The labor guide says it's like a 3.5 hour job (can't remember for sure!) and I can easily do it in about 2.

Good luck

Well, I got it done today. Took about 3 hours. Would've been a lot less if the ?-shaped hose came off easier or if I could find that hidden top bolt to the cover. I seriously felt like wanting to track down the designer if this thing and shooting him, though. Was a PITA but very do able.

Thanks for the help.
