Hatch Power Pull Down Unit Conversion

I have a power pull down unit in the back of my hatch and wanted to know If there is anyway where I can convert it to a regular latching system? Could I mount one in my 86 Trans am even if the car came equipped with the motorized latch?

There is a company called Top Down solutions that sells a reinforced case for the pull down. The part numbers and contact information can be found here. http://www.fl-thirdgen.org/hatch%20pull-down.pdf
