Car won't start & fp won't prime!

I know a low charged battery would be a problem starting the car, but could it also prevent the fp from priming? Was also going to purchase a new ign. switch but the tilt steering column installed to already has a working one, but from an auto V-8 car. Should I get one for a manual 4-cyl car? Autozone has different part #'s for V-8/auto, tilt and manual cars. Any other ideas? Need some help guys as this car needs to be running soon. I'll try jumping it tomorrow.

BTW, engine won't crank either!

Thanks,
Brandon

check and see if you have spark. If you dont have spark, then it may be the ingnition module un the distributor cap.

Come on guys! Need help here......PLEEEEEEEZE!

Tried starting her without a dash or speedo and without properly gounded harness (forgot is wasn't grounded!) a few months ago. Wouldn't start then and won't start now after new dash, speedo and tilt column installed and proper ground. All lights, gauges and other inside electrical works. Fuel pump won't prime and car won't crank! FP was replaced last year. When I try to start....get nothing. ECM is dishing out continuous 12's. Had problems with neutral safety switch last year. Replacing that in the next day or so. Ignition switch was replaced from that of my 83 Z with a V-8/auto with the new column. Was going to replace that as well. Guys....really need some help here or in the shop she goes.

Can't check for spark if whe won't crank.

Car: 1984 Camaro SC
Engine: Iron Duke 2.5 4-cyl
Tranny: 4-spd manual

Thanks,
Brandon

by "not starting" do you mean not cranking? Is the battery low on voltage? Is the igntion switch good? These are all problems that you said it might be. You need to eliminate one thing at a time. If the battery is low enough, of course the fuel pump would not prime, but it would have to be pretty low. Have you tried using the battery out of another car to see if that will allow it to crank? Also, if the car cranks and the fuel pump does not prime, it could also be the oil pressure safety switch. I didn't even think that the 2.5 had an electric pump, but I guess it does. Reply to this will all the trouble shooting you have done and the results. Maybe we can help you a little more then.

To be honest with you, not sure if it'll crank. After new saftey switch is installed tomorrow or day after, I can tell you. Can Autozone or Pep Boys test an ignition switch? I'm worried that I might have fried a few things (like my new fp) when trying to start without a ground.

If it cranks, but wont fire, and you dont hear the fuel pump, I would say it is a back pump. My beretta did the same thing. But to make sure check your pressure.
