alright i have a 1986 Firebird Trans Am. my headlight motors still work, its just that one of them you have to pop the hood and just touch it and it will then go up. I have read that the 82-86 motor rarely ever go bad. see here
TECH NOTE : 82-86 motors rarely go bad, 90% of the time it is a relay problem. These motors are interchangeable between years, but 82-83 uses 2 separate plugs that have the same wiring.
TECH NOTE : 87-92 motors have poor factory clutches.
TECH NOTE : 93-97 & 98-02 motors require a special procedure for installation. Improper installation will damage the internal gear. 96-97 cars have a revised headlight mounting panel that improves the mounting angle of the motor to make lifting and closing the headlight assembly less stressful on the gear.
Thats the info i got from one of my best used parts site.
Ok since it seems the motor isn't bad how do i check the relays and how do i fix it? Are relays even cheap? Can i fix them myself?
Help me please. thanks in advance

ok update on this but new problem, I changed the relay for the Driver side lamp. It goes up like its supposed to..... yippie huray, but the success is short lived as the new problem is noticed, it wont go back down. The passenger side one goes down and up, but the new driver's side relay i guess isn't working because its only going up. What do i do? Is my relay bad? is the the other relay that controls both of them the problem? Help me please
If teh lamp door is working correctly on one side, teh isolation relay could be the problem. You may also have a problem with the actuator relay or an end limit switch on the motor in question.

There are a few threads on this, and here's my suggestion.
Check the fuseable links. On an '82 they will go up, but not back down when it's (there are two, one for each door motor) blown. They are located by the bottom of the driver side wheel well, close to the frame horn.
HTH!
