yep thats what i said.. code 53!!

heres the scoop.. i parked my car for a week.. didnt touch a thing on it. it sat for just over a week, i try and get in today to start it and ... nothing... no click.. no engine trying to turn... nothing..

the lights are on, the stereo works, gauges all work.. when i try to start the car.. the radio dims as usual.. i pull the headlights on and turn the key.. they do NOT dim..

so i notice the SES light is on.. i pull the code... first it gives me code 12... naturally... i wait for the other code.. and it flashes 5 times.. then 3.... code 53??? what the F---???

fuel pump is pumping, all the fuses are ok.. all battery connections are clean. i have tried a push start because i have a bum knee and i dont have anyone else to help me. anyone know what the hell is going on with this car??

was running fine when i parked it. now its being gay.

 

Have you tried a battery charger or starting booster unit on the car? Normally, a '53' is the result of a voltage spike, which can also blast the MOV in the ECM. Booster units can deliver over 17.1V, triggering the '53' code.

 

charge the the battery if necessary (off the vehicle) and reset the ecm. if you do remove the battery from the vehicle, then the ecm will reset automatically(given it's off the car for a few minutes). if the battery is charged and no charging ti required, then remove the pos(+) battery terminal for 5 min reconnect and try firing her up.

you know... now that i remember correctly.. my dad did try to recharge my battery 2 weeks ago... and didnt un-cap the battery.. and some acid leaked...

i'll try whats you guys recommended on saturday.. gotta go to the Angeles Game tomorrow night.. thanks for the help, ill let you guys know what happend..

Considering your father had to charge it before...I'd say yes. Couldn't hurt nothin, and at least you know you have a good battery for a few seasons.

 

ok boys.. i did everything you guys said... put the keys in.. turned it...

nothing.. no click no crank... nothing

all lights come on.. the headlights dont dim when i try and crank it. stereo is on.

did i kill the coil on the starter? im running out of things it can be. any one have any ideas?

 

Time to start checking the starter circuit (and cleaning up the acid that was boiled out of the battery).

Likely suspects are the neutral/clutch safety switch, VATS/start enable relay, igition switch, or starter solenoid.

 

yeah i'll get out my wire tester and see whats getting current and whats not.. i have a feeling its going to be the starter... but i'll check everything anyways.

i'll get to it on saturday,i just had knee surgery, but i'll keep you guys posted if i have any questions,
