Unstable idle and stalling???
Unstable idle and stalling???
OK, guys. When I installed my new coil in my 1986 LG4 equipped Firebird, the distributor twisted, so the timing was all off. It was knocking. Anyhow, my dad and I did the timing yesterday, set to 6* BTDC with the four wire cable disconnected (can't remember what it's called right now) and now the thing idles like crap. It'll surge then fall back down, ranging 250 RPM above and below where the idle was set before (650-700). It also stalls if I leave it in drive at a light, and sometimes when I leave it in park.
Could it still be a timing issue? Or did something go bad here coincidentally?

I'm running a QuadraJet.
Nope, idle screw is fine. I've been adjusting it. No matter where I set it, it has the same range until I have it idling over 1000RPM.

Try advancing the timing a couple more degrees, maybe 8 or 10. Maybe check the idle mixture too.
