Just timed my L98.....did I do it right?

Just timed my L98.....did I do it right?
I first unplugged the tan and black wire near the A/C,then hooked up the timing light and then started the car.I set the timing at 6*btdc and then shut the car off,and re-connected the tan and black wire.When I started the car again I checked the timing and it was at about 12*btdc.Is this right?
