Common problems with faulty or mis-adjusted TPS?

When setting my tps sensor a while back, we could never get the proper readings on the equipment we were using. First we thought the sensor was bad, so we went a bought a new one, but we got the same readings. Now since then I have a pinging problem under quick acceleration, but If I accelerate slow, it doesn't ping. I was reading some posts from searching about what the tps does and got me thinking that this might be the cause of my pinging problem.

Any thoughts comments?

First off...what did you set the TPS to? What is the WOT reading?

Also, I don't think pinging would be evident with a misadjusted TPS, but get it set correctly.

Assume you have a TPI...start by setting base timing to 6* BTDC. Disconnect the EST bypass, set base timing, shut engine off, reconnect the bypass...this way the SE light will stay off.

Still ping?

C'mon back

Sorry, left out some info.. it is an 89 iroc, tpi 350. What did I set it to? We couldn't set the WOT, it wouldn't give us proper readings, the lower setting is set fine though.

I have reset the base timing, it doesn't help...

If you can read it at idle then you can read it at WOT. The connections are the same.
It should be approxiamently .054 volts at idle and 4.0 volts at WOT
