Hey im bout to go shim this starter motor on my car. Its making this clicking sound sometimes. Problem is i got this shim kit and I have 1/64" 1/32" and 1/16" shims. Which one to fit on a 92 RS with 305 and yes it has AC well thats the the guy at O'Reillys asked me for no reason. But I would appreciate any knowledge here thanks

unless you just R&Red starters you don't need shims, in other words if your clicking problem just developed you don't need shims.

Yup if it is just clicking and that just started it isn't shims you need it's a solenoid or a better connection to it or more juice.

When I went to the stealership looking for starter shims for the 88 that I rebuilt they told the car didn't come with any. First time I've heard and seen that. I guess it doesn't need any cause I have the proper clearances without.

There is a good article in the new Camaro Performer magazine about the correct use of shims and when they are needed, my car didn't come with any and I think unless the factory screws up the machine work it won't need any. But if it's just clicking and the starter was already on the car then gmsmallblockguy had it correct.

Yes usually you just use a 1 small shim with a non OE starter. If the manufacturor machined the nose cone correctly you wouldent have to use one at all, tell that to the parts store people, heh
