Front cross member question

I'll be dissasembling the whole front end over the next few days and I'm beginning to think it would be alot easier if i could just unbolt the crossmember and suspension from the rest of the car, raise the front end, and roll it all out.
Anyone done this? any tips?
Thanks

Yes.

Don't.

It doesn't work like that in these cars. It's not like a 1st or 2nd gen, where the subframe is one big unit, with the engine and front cap just sort of sitting on it and the body bolted to it by a couple of bushings. In these cars, the top of the strut and the top of the spring pocket are both attached to what will stay behind when you pull the K-member; so no matter what, you have to deal with all of that before you can remove the K-member.

So, there's no real advantage to doing it that way; if you jack the car up and put stands under the K-member, you can unbolt all of the front end components with a minimum of hassle. That's really the best way.

Replace your frame-side motor mounts while you're doing this. It's an incredible PITA to do it at any other time, but a piece of cake while you have the control arms off.
