New Brake Hose Leaks, no matter what
New Brake Hose Leaks, no matter what
Hi,
I just installed a left front brake hose, and it's OK. Installed the right front, and it drips fluid off the bolt at the bottom of the caliper. The left front did this too, but I jostled the bolt around and retorqued it, and the leak stopped.
On this right front hose, though, I've spent 45 minutes redoing the damn bolt, lining up the hose nice and flush before tightening, making sure I have both washers in place, even used the old washers once. No matter what, after I put more fluid in and pump the brakes a few times,.... drip... drip... drip... fluid dripping off the bolt !!!!!
Could the hose be leaking ? Bad hose? Maybe I broke the hose in my struggles trying to get it onto the caliper?
Thanks for any help !

Just get a new hose and start over. I've had calipers machined wrong do stuff like this, but never a brake hose. No reason it couldn't leak there as well, though.
As long as you didn't strip out the bolt that attaches it to the caliper that should be all you need.
Be very careful about dirt and foreign objects getting in there. One little speck of dirt and the copper "crush washers" won't seal up.

there are copper crush washers on the top and bottom of the fitting.
you need to use thoes... and you cannot reuse them once they have been tightened...
they crush to seal as you tighten it..
what you need to do is get 2 new washers, make sure the surfaces are clean.. since some grit from dirt or whatever can get in the way and make it leak...
slip a washer on the bolt, put the hosefitting on the bolt, then put the other washer on there... make sure the caliper is clean where the bolt goes, the snug it up on there.

Thanks , guys, for the quick replies. I am getting back on as quickly as possible to tell you I "fixed" the problem. I had the bleed screw open, and each time I pumped up the brakes to test the hose, it was secretly leaking out the bleed screw, down the caliper, and then off the bolt hose, the bastard !
My bad....
Sorry to waste your time, but thanks for the good advice !!!!
