oil pan for GTA

I'm having some trouble finding the right oil pan for my car. It is a GTA with the 305 TPI engine and 5-sp. My mechanic has tried 3 pans from the dealer and 2 pans from the junk yard. None of them fit. The parts computer shows the same part number for 5.0 TBI, 5.0 TPI, and 5.7 TPI but the diagrams all show different pans. A difference in the pans is that the drain plug for my pan is on the passenger side and all the other pans have had the plug on the driver's side. I have been without a car for almost 2 weeks now, I need some help

It doesn't matter where the drain is.

All that matters is the pickup to pan relation.

Is the drain location the only difference??

88,

If the pan fits the engine other than the drain plug position, what difference would it make if your plug were on the "normal" side? I'm guessing that there are soem other fitment issues, but you didn't specify.

Remember that the '86 and later pans will be sized for a one-piece rear main seal. I'm guessing your parts team is looking at the correct year, but I just had to throw that one out there.

I know that the drain plug doesn't make a difference. So far my mechanic has not given me a whole lot of info other than the pans don't fit. I don't know where the clearance problem is. He did tell me that the bolt pattern is correct but I don't know anything else. I was hoping that someone else had had this problem before and would be able to help.

Hey Chip, is that the stock engine? I've looked in a couple of places and I find the same part # for all the engines. I also see no differences down there that would lead me to believe that a different pan was needed. (this is all under the assumption that it is an '88 GTA). See if you can get some more info from your mechanic. Also see if you can snag the casting number for us.

Thanks for your help guys. I finally got it taken care of. I had to take it to a machine shop and have them cut out the damaged section and weld in a new piece. Good as new. Now if I can just get the clutch to work.
