shortblock, rebuild or buy?

i want to put a 350 in place of my 283. i'm not sure if i should get one from the junk yard and rebuild it or buy one already rebuilt. if i got one from the junk yard i would probably need to have it bored and honed($200) new pistons and rings($200-300) bearings, gaskets and other stuff like that ($100) maybe balanced ($200) hot tanked($40) thats already around $800 not including the core and redoing the crank and stuff. so i'l be around $1000. where could i get a rebuilt shortblock or something a little cheaper? in Pace they have a L98 shortblock for 1400, would that be good? are there any places that sell good rebuilt shortblocks for cheap? i'm only 16 and don't have much money so i want to do this as cheap as i can without having a POS. thx

I would look to your local machine shops/engine rebuilders, you can normally find a rebuilt 350 in the $400 range and you could always use the money you saved on a nice set of heads or something else worthwhile.
