Ok this has been getting progressively worse over the last month or two. Before the idle would just go sporadic once or twice a week, now its doing it always and having trouble staying alive when I start it. This is basically when Im stopped in any gear. Idle dips so low lights dim like it wants to stall. If its in park idle shoots up to 750+ a lot of times, then again sometimes it may just go all over the 0- 1000 range. Also when driving lots of hesitation, engine will shake for a second sometimes before giving a big umph. Just today is the first time it actually started stalling though. Only when I start it up, it starts than over like 3 seconds dips down and stalls. Starts right up again second time but really gotta grind it. Gotta pump gas to keep it alive, but once you drive it for just a few seconds it controls itself enough to keep alive when stopped, though idle still low.

Checked codes with manual tonight, got the standard startup code 12. I dont know how to read what the other codes ARE, but this is the 2 sequences I got. First was 1 Long - Pause - 3 Short .
Second was 2 Short - Pause - 2 Short. Can anyone tell me what these are and how they might relate to my problems? Also, the check engine light isnt on all the time, it only comes on rarely when Im stopped and the idle goes really crazy or stalls like when the problem is at its worst. *despite the fact this problem is regular the light isnt on all the time* Can anyone also tell me how to deciepher what the different flashes mean so I could read my own codes?

I havent had any tune up within 25,000 miles since I bought the car so Im sure it could be any number of things. Any tips would be appreciated! Im not a master mechanic by any means, explaining things in detail I could do myself would be helpful. *Im mechanically inclined and can do anything with decent instructions, just not TOO experienced with cars* Also I don't have a lotta money to play around with 'guess' parts if ya know what I mean Hoping to get it succesfully diagnosed. THanks in advance for help!

sounds like the TPS ( throttle posistion sensor ) there are actually 2 other post about this now. I just ordered a new switch for me, and come friday I should know if that fixes my symptoms, that are similar to yours.

 

oh yeah as far a codes, you will see the flashes in sets of three. so 1 long 3 short is code 13. 2 short 2 short is code 22 each should be in sets of three.... i.e. 1 long 3 short pause 1 long 3 short pause 1 long 3 short pause something else. IF that makes any sence let me know.
