Did your shop also inspect all the suspension bushings?

I've noticed huge differences in ride feel between bald and new tires.

I think you might be confusing an "inexperience" question with a "stupid" question.

"Inexperience" is the lack of history or understanding within a given subject, and can usually be solved easily by asking the right questions.

"Stupid" is almost impossible to cure, since that's usually the result of NOT asking questions.

BTW - I've done some pretty stupid things by assuming I knew the answer. Funny how the level of stupidity is often duirectly proportional to the cost of solving the "Stupid" action.

I drive a 94 silverado with a hell of a load on it, I have to pump the tire up to 80psi (yes they are rated for that).

When I remove the load, and the tires are still aired up it feels like I am on a riding lawn mower in a boulder field.

Did you check your tire pressure? If they are over inflated youin for some terrible wear, and the worst ride of your life.

I once went into a local ford/nissan dealer to have my check engine light fixed under warranty. They said I needed new shocks, and new brakes, and wanted to do the work right away for saftey.

I took it straight to goodyear to get an estimate (it was riding really rough). The guys at the ford dealership either had a bad pressure gauge, or added 85 PSI to each tire to make me think I needed new shocks, and the brake goodyear said had 40k left on them. No wonder it was riding rough, those tires were rated for 45psi

Moral of the story,
1) don't absolutely trust every shop you go to. Even the good ones make mistakes.

2) Don't trust your tire gauge unless you know or sure it's accurate.
