put headers on now starter is screeching and car wont start help quick!!!

i just got my headers on today very happy bout that took the smog unit and the a/c unit out and when i went to start the car the motor jumped and the started screeched. what would make this happen? the starter just seems to spin.. anyhelp quick would be appreciated.. thanks!!!

no i didnt take the starter off to put the headers on.. i am just wondering though i wouldnt think it could be that i bumped the starter any ideas??

Did you disconnect the battery when you dropped the passenger side header in? The reason I ask is because you might have shorted out the selenoid with the header collector and this would not allow the starter to engage the flexplate and thus spin freely. You can buy just a replacement selenoid and save some money since it sounds like the motor itself is good. As a side note dont run the starter for more than 5 seconds at a time or it will overheat and then you will need a whole new one.

ok thanks slow z i think though i am going to buy a better starter then a reman one.. i have no luck with them
