Engine code?

I have just acquired a 1984 Z28 Camaro. I was wondering where I might find the engine code. I would like to find it so I can find out more about the specific's about it. Thanks Cody

If it's a Z28 the eight letter of the VIN should be a G or an H.
The G is the L69 HO motor (the one you probably want) and the
H is the LG4. There is also an alpha numeric number stamped on
the block in front of the passenger side cylinder head. You may have to scrape off some dirt and grime but its there. I advise you find this number and confirm you have the correct engine in the car, My 84 Z came with a .040 350 in it.

The numbers that ChevyTech described will give you information about the originality and some of the specifcations.



The casting number will give you some general information about the engine. It is on the left rear ledge of the case:

Thank you for the help. I trid to look for it yesterday. At the time it's on a trailer thats not very wide. So the door dosent open to far. So when I reached in I was attacked by a lot of wasp that had made a nest behind the mirror on the DS. So untell I get them out I wount be able to see what it has. I was also wondering how the handling is. I dont relly no that much about these car yet. Thanks Cody
