knock on acceleration

I think I might have a small problem here. The engine soudns fine through all the gears up to 4th. Its good in 5th too, until today in traffic I needed to accelerate somewhat fast in 5th gear. It started sounding wierd, what I thought was knocking a little bit. As soon as I let off the gas a little, it calmed back down. I didn't have my ALDL laptop hooked up at the time, but a previous 40 minute journey had a knock count of 47. That probably included my bad clutch skills and stalling in the driveway a few times. The count of 47 seems to have happened in a cluster. It looks like I was at a stop, and accelerated at my usual leisurely pace. It went from 9 to 47 going from 0 to 55 mph. I wasn't gunning it by any means, I was actaully accelerating quite slow.

Now is this a bad shifting problem or an engine problem? Hopefully its an easy fix I have 2 decent ALDL logs if those would help any. I don't know what to look for.

Thanks

You probabily "lugged the motor" a bit causing it to spark knock,
momentairly.

Use better gas.

light/moderate throttle at low rpm will make 'er ping like that. Better gas and/or less timing will help. Or just don't lug it

Ok, I normally don't have that sort of problem, so I prolly should have shifted to 4th, gassed it, and then went back to 5th..... But my clutch learning brain didn't think that way and gassed it. I could probably spare the change for the next level up gas, I am using 87 right now.

Other than the gas, no problems, just don't do it again

Thanks
