I was driving my car going 60mph just cruising and all of a sudden I here this loud knocking sound. When I got home I noticed the sound was coming from the driver's side of the engine. I thought it was the rocker arms since they are aftermarket. ( i put a different cam in plus pushrods,lifters,and spings 8 months ago)

I pulled off the valve cover and checked the rocker arms to see if they were loose. Everything seemed to be in place. I did run the car without the valve cover to see if the rocker arms were hitting it and causing the knock. They werent. It sounds like it is in the #1 cyclinder. I think it might be interrnal.

The knock happens every few seconds.

Does anybody have any idea of what the problem could be?

i know its not the gas. ive been using 93 octane for the past few years.

 

piston slap? rod knock? i dunno....


does it do the noise at idle? does raising the engine speed make the noise sound louder? have u tried running the engine with the #1 plug wire disconnected? do the "knock" worsten? quiet down? or nothing?
