I'm just trying to figure out what sorta crate engine i should be looking at...
This car will be a daily driver although i dont need to drive far for anything, i do live in new-england so the winters are a bitch to drive in, but for the most part i think i'll keep the car inside when its snowing out or raining really bad....
but i will be going to the track as often as i can, and i want to make some good times :-) i'm aiming for around 11 seconds......
I have thought about a smaller engine and using nitrous at the track, but i would kinda rather stay away from nitrous for now...
I'm hoping for a t56, i dont have billions of dollars, and i am willing to work on the car as much as necisary as long as its not like 5 hours every month or whatever (besides new stuff)
Please vote for what you think would be a good power to go with

well most of the engines i have looked at have been 383's with between 400 and 475 HP built by small companies.....so a 383 is most likely what it will be......

hmm....the 400 HP seems to be the most popular choice now.....Will a T5 transmission work with 400 HP? if so, it would be great cause i'm gonna have a hard enough time getting the money to get it done by the time in 17....if i dont have to worry much about the tranny at first, i'll be able to probably have it by next summer

I think you better clarify whether you mean crank horsepower or Rear Wheel horsepower. Huge difference. Crate engines are usually rated at Crank horsepower. As an example, with a 385hp fastburn engine from GM you would be looking at maybe 330 to the rear wheels with a T56 and a good intake. IMHO, you'll want closer to 400 at the rear wheels if you really want to be able to walk the newer LS1s that have bolt-ons. 330 just isn't going to cut it. Sooooo ... that means a motor with closer to 450 at the crank.

okay, i do mean rear wheel horsepower, and i also want to go with a carb, not FI.
