Need help installing a new ignition sw..
I need help installing a ignition switch on a 1987 IROC Z28. This switch is located on the topside of the lower part of the steering column. How do you get the park/neutral cable off of the SOB?!!
Thanks!

Thanks!
IROC,
The lock cylinder is located at the upper end of the column. The actual switch is located at the lower-middle area of the column, generally on top of the outer column tube, at the lower end of the actuator rod.
As for the park cable, fun. ain't it? It connects another actuator rod on the right side of the column that operates the shift lever gate and nterlock pin at the upper end of the column, releasing the lock cylinder to the full OFF position only when the selector is in PARK.
The diagram isn't exact for your car, but is representative.

Thanks Vader!
I am trying to remove the cable from part 64 in the diagram. The only way I could remove it was to take off the part, twist it and then insert screw driver in slot! I tried everything before taking it off the column and pushing various things in the hole till I found the magic tool that worked! What a pain in the butt!
