no power or rpm's above 3500?

ok heres the story i had the stock 305 carb in my car had a new tranny built, put that in and the car would shift at 5000 and had decent power but started knocking so i bought a 350 block put in new crank and pistons, holley systemax kit with intake and cam, new heads with 3 angle valve job, edelbrock 600 carb, and headers. got it running but didnt seem right, (wouldnt rev above 3500 rpm's and acted like a limiter. so i took it to the guy that helped me with building the shortblock and he, adjusted valves-nothing, new carb-nothing,new fuel pump-nothing, checked all fuel lines-nothing tried new distributer-nothing, checked all exhaust nothings plugged(headers, y-pipe, hollowed cat, 2 and a half inch pipe, flowmaster muffler)-still nothing. any ideas? my only other idea is the timing on the chain being a tooth off. also checked torque converter.

I have been having the same problem with my car, does it revv high if you manually shift? drop it into first and see how high it will rev , mine shifts right at 3000 no matter how hard I hit the gas if I put it drive. I would think it would be a transmission problem.I went ahead and put a B&M shifter in and now I just manually shift it.

get a long screwdriver and turn the shaft on the oilpump until you can drop the dist. it the right position. Easy as pie.
