Auto **** ****

I have a 1988 Camaro with a V6 and automatic transmission. I need to get the shifter **** off to repair part of the console. I have tried to turn (screw) it off and it won't budge. Does it screw off? Is there a secret? The **** is almost square shapped with a button in the top. Thanks for any help

Yup, they have a clip in the front. Just do as ede says and it will slide right off.
