Were can I get a good LT1 cam?
Hey guys,
Just wondering, were can I get my hands on an LT1 cam? I know I could just pull one out of an LT1 engine, but no one around here seems to have one.
Does GM still make it? Any other cam grinders make it? Its for whats going to be a fairly hot 305 thats gonna be all done up.
I think the LT1 cam would be a good choice... would an LT4 hot cam be a better one, or is that too much cam?
BTW, it will have a Holley 4bbl, short tube headers, and a 5 speed (no worries about TC stall speed here) if its worth anything.

Ok... Ebay... good idea
Now... will an LT1 cam/rollers work in a non-roller block? I mean, can I use the LT1 cam and lifters in what is currently a non-roller block?

No. The factory roller lifters require the "dog bone" style lifter rotation limiters, and if the block is not machined for the limiters and the "sprider" spring that holds them in place, you would need to use aftermarket hydraulic roller lifters and shorter push rods.

Hmm.. that sucks... are there any other cams around with similar specs to the LT1 peice? Preferably one for non-roller lifters.

There are six cams I'd recomend.
- the Crane PowerMax 260, 266 or 272
- the Comp Xtreme Energy 250, 256 or 262
The lower numbered cams will give you better lower end power, while the higher you go in numbers the better will be your high end hp. They will all work in your engine but the last in each brand are pushing the lift limits on your stock heads, so you might want to stick with the first two.
