Engine smoking help (kinda long)
OK,
Two weeks ago, I was driving around with a bad thermostat, the car would run at around 220* on the highway and slightly hotter around town. It progressivly got worse until it got to the point where the car would run at 250* on the highway. So I got the thermostat changed to a brand new 180* stat and it fixed the problem. I have been driving around now for two weeks or so with no problems whatsoever, and then all of teh sudden last night I came to a stop and I saw smoke coming from under my hood. I looked at my temp gauge and the water temp was at 180. So I pulled over, popped the hood and looked. The smoke was not coming from the radiator, but from somewhere from the block. What could this be??? The oil level is still fine, for it was just changed two weeks ago when the thermostat was changed, but the oil is getting pretty dark now all of the sudden.
Something to keep in mind: I do have an exhaust leak right where the exhaust manifold connects to the heads. Could it be the hot exhaust gas hitting the cold air? Thats a possibility, but yet the smoke smelled really badly.

Man it could be anything... It really depends WHERE it came from too. I mean it could be a wire loom melting on the hot exhaust, oil dripping on the exhaust for a couple seconds, a small water leaking hitting something really hot... etc etc... Gotta give us more than that. Try to look around the engine and see if you see anyting melted, oil stains... If it does it again, pull over the look under the hood asap. Try to pinpoint where the smoke is coming from. It'll at least give you a starting point.
