Cant figure out where this rattling noise is coming from...

I hear this noise only when I go 15 mph and over. Whenever I go over the smallest bump on the road I hear a rattling noise almost like when brake pads are just worn to the sensor.

I know its not my brakes (atleast I hope its not) because I visually checked my front brakes and they had lots of meat on them and no where near the sensor and I just got my rear drums overhauled not to long ago.

I also drove down a hill holding my brakes down the whole time to see if the noise would go away. The noise did not go away.

I believe it rattles on both sides of the car because I can hear it echoing off the cars next to me.. lol

Any ideas??

-Jeff

The brake pads could be rattling in the calipers. If you didn't install new retainer clips to hold the pads firmly to the caliper and piston, they'll rattle. The RTV adhesive ""Brake Quiet" junk seldom lasts under heavy braking and the higher heat it generates.

You might also want to take a close look at the stabilizer link pins and bushings.

I would check the heatshields for the exhaust, and the starter, also pull your wheel and check your brakes, if the pads are indeed low, replace them, I do agree with Vader and Badbird in that it sounds like the heat shields, or the clips for the brake pads. If that doesn't help, might try checking the wheel bearings, if theres play in them it could possibly cause some rattling, i just did mine and the front no longer hums or has a rattle, I also did the pads rotors and calipers. Just some food for thought.

I had something similar to that bro. Does you're emergency brake work? If not, and it pulls up rather easily, it could be that the 'chain' underneath is dangling on the driveshaft....

Take a peek....
