700R4 Owners Inside Please

I have a few questions about thier preservation. . .

My car has 83,000 miles and the tranny right now is perfect, it doesn't slip, the shifts are still nice and firm, I never race, and the fluid and filter are changed every 8,000 miles and the valve body is cleaned out at the same time.

Now, I of course want to keep it this way and my questions are: When driving around town, it it better to have it in regular "Drive" than in the "Overdrive" posistion?? Also, when the car is still warming up and the ilde is up around between 800 and 1100, when I'm at a stoplight, should I put it in nutral for the least amount of wear on the plates inside the tranny??

Thanks

D or OD, it doesn't matter to the trans. '92 was a good year for the 700r4 as far as "GM getting the design right," so your trans should stay happy with the care you're giving it.

When you come to a stop, the only thing taking any wear is the torque convertor. You might actually cause wear to the clutches if you went into neutral at a stop... when you put it back into drive, the transmission will have to re-engage everything.

How are you cleaning out the valvebody? Are you taking it down & disassembling it at every fluid/filter change?

Thanks man

I'm not taking it out, I just spray it down with some carb cleaner to get the major gunk out while I have the filter off.

Okay, I was going to say, "Damn, that's a lot of work to drop the valvebody every 8k miles!" (Not to mention having to always buy the valve body-to-cover-to-case gaskets!)

GTA,

If you're changing trans oil as often as I am, I hope you've got one of these:

It makes the task SO much easier and cleaner.

I was going to put one on mine, I even bought it, but I was worried about developing some strange trans leak. That's all I need, for my third trans to run dry because of something -I- caused. Hey I'm getting pretty good now at not spilling ATF all over the floor, anyway!
