Rear end, swaps, interchange

Hey, I ripped 7 of the 11 teeth off of my 89 Iroc pinion gear in my 9 bolt rear end, and then broke off a few ring gear bolts, not knowing they were left hand thread, but anyways, new gears are a lot and summit doesn't carry them anymore. I have been looking around and have found a few in the junkyards, what other years have this strange combination of spline count and such? Would a later model rear end swap directly into my car?

Well, unless you're dead set on a 9-bolt, just stick a 10-bolt in there. I don't think there was any method to GM's madness when putting in 9 vs 10 bolts. I'm sure there is something but who cares. Someone here mentioned finding gears for the 9 bolt cheap. Try a search. Otherwise go with the 10-bolt. All the 3rd gen axles are interchangeable.
