disconnected vacume advance

Hey guys I disconected my vacume advance of my dist. it seems to feel a little better. Today I changed the plugs and put an accell cap and rotor on and changed the curve springs with the lightest ones so i woudl get the most mechanical advance and reset my timing to 9degrees. Well I haven't drove it since i did all this but is it alright to run with the vacume advance off?? What are the disadvantages and advantages of doing this? thanks

No advantage.

The disadvantage is less adv at part throttle/light load situations.

Whenever the timing is advanced as much as it can be, before knock, the engine is at maximum efficiency (as far as timing goes).

The cool thing about vacuum advance is it puts the timing as far as it will go (without knock) while the engine is under a light load.

I bought my '72 with the vacuum advance unhooked. I would make 2 trips into town and back for a total of ~ 100 miles. Then I'd have to fill up.

Now that I've hooked it up, I can make 3 trips there and back. Chalk up another 50 miles to the vacuum advance.
