Engine Idenification/Tranny Id....

I got this number off my engine....Gm then 1008015. Does this mean anything to anybody? If this is not the right number, How long/short is a typical engine number.

I can not find the Tran. Id number. The Tran. fluid pan looks just like the one in the chilton/haynes books. 12" by 10" or somthing like that. Not quite square though. Any Ideas.
88 Iroc (lb9 engine I think). Automatic>>>

Thanks guys!!

check this out for engine verification.

As far as the tranny-- the # should be on the pass side housing midway up. Should be MD8 cast in the housing.
