starter heat soak??

what exactly is this?
is it the solinod not functioning when hot?
or
is it the starter mechanisum?
I have changed solinods and installed a Moroso heat shield and under the right conditions(always at the worst time) the starter won't work intill I let the car set for awhile 1/2-1 Hr.

MrMike99...Its the solinoid, At least it was on my car. After I installed a set of hooker headers my car did the same thing.

Summit sales a kit for around 25.00 that mounts the solinoid away from the sarter. Its basically a Ford solinoid. I never had a heatsoak problem after I installed it. It very easy to install too.

Well I just explained my "phantom no-start" on another post, so not gonna get into it again in detail. In a nutshell, I was having a similar problem and what has (seemingly) fixed it for me was to remove all cables from the starter, battery, and grounding points and clean the terminals of each with a wire brush - that includes the terminals of the batt, starter, and block. Haven't had a problem since.

This just happened to me last night... at the worst time. Basically the car overheated in traffic around 6pm. I got it into a parking lot and tried again around 8pm and again at 10pm. It would just rapidly tic.

Finally, I giggled the positive cable and BUZZAP! I think I shorted it against the heat shield that I installed last March to keep the heat thing from happening with the new starter... which it has happened about 3 times since. IMO, the heat shield has caused more problems then it's fixed!
