Help! Broken Exhaust Header Bolts
Help! Broken Exhaust Header Bolts
Just picked up a 86 Camero for my son, 2.8L with 174K---engine runs great and strong. Only problem is two bolts on left side (back) and one on the right side front (lower) have the heads missing and are leaking exhaust. At least one is broken at the block. Any tricks for removal??
Is this a common problem??? Should I live with it until the engine needs replacing?
Thanks!

Get some easy outs. They look like drill bits that are tapered and have steep threads around them. You drill a hole through the bolt, put the easy out in and then hook a wrench to the easy out and twist the thing off. I did this to the bolts on my 88 rs that had a 2.8 - same bolts too! Those easy outs are the best. They are about $25-30 a piece, but well worth it.
