Pick up coil

Pick up coil

I need to replace the pick up coil on my 88 gta(5.7L L98).
I have the distibutor out of the engine but I cant figure out how to get to the pick up. What do I do to get to it?

If I remember right, you have to punch out the pin that holds the gear at the bottom on. You can then remove the gear and pull out the dist. shaft. There will be a locking clip that holds the PU/C in. Remove that and ther it is Cant remember what order the magnetic shield comes off, but youll see it. If I missed a step sorry, you'll figure it out its not that tough.

Yea, thats how you do it 87Formula4bbl. The only thing that will cause trouble is the shaft will have crud built up and make it difficult to pull out. I have read that the end play should be checked and adjusted, but I forgot how much. I did a coil last year sometime.

GumOut carb cleaner works a treat on helping to get the shaft out. Cuts right through the buildup of varnish.

When you put the gear back on line up the dimple with the slot for the rotor (at top of shaft).
