Possible Damage
Well, the other day I was being a serious idiot, noone was home so I went in the freshly cut hayfield and was cuttin doughnuts. Well, after getting a look at the tach, I seen the needle AT 6500 RPM. Only 500 more till it hit the peg, I knew this motor would blow. I let off at 6500, it sounded fine, feels good stiil, sounds a little better, but I've noticed a almost rattling sound after I let off of a rev. It also backfired a couple times. What could have been done to the motor? BTW, I probably won't ever cut doughnuts in a car again w/o a rev limiter, I know it had to be about to give out, 6500 RPM and all. I've heard of a H.O. doing 6k, but redline is 5500 rpm.

GM screwed up on the tach, the actual redline is 6000 for the High Output cars. Thats what GM says.

i wouldnt worry about it too much. Ive heard of people revving those things up to 7k repitedly. Just dont make a habit of it. Ive had my 350 up to 6500 (stupid 2-3 no-shift) and that survived without any problems.
