1992 V8 350: Where Engine Number located exactly?

I'd like to view the engine number of my engine however can't find it.

My understanding is it's on the front right side of the block. (Left side if standing in front of engine). But I can't find it.

Do you have to pull the engine out to see? There is so much engine area. where exactly?

If I were standing in front of the engine, looking to the left, WHERE EXACTLY is the code?

I assume you mean the serial number cast into the block. For this stand on the left side of the car and look behind the cylinder head. It won't be easy to see. Try a flashlight and an inspection mirror. You may need to clean the area of crud to see them. Hope this helps...

BTW, why do you want the casting number? Just cuz or are you trying to track down info about your car?

No, not the casting number.. The Engine ID Number..

Tells you the plant, month, date, and engine (codfe)

There is also one with it that has the Make of vehicle, year, plant, & sequene number.

I looked and don't see any ledge with this.. I can't see anything really too much since the AC pump is there.

Here are pics I took

1. http://www.camarosource.ca/where_eng_id_1.jpg : Front of engine, left side.. You see the AC pump.

2. http://www.camarosource.ca/where_eng_id_2.jpg : Looking down that section.

3. http://www.camarosource.ca/where_eng_id_3.jpg : Close zoom of that section from the side of the engine.

4. http://www.camarosource.ca/where_eng_id_4.jpg : Really close up view (notice a "C23" on the housing.. what that?).. But you'll notice there apparently is no shelf with that Engine ID. Also I tried moving the wires there and what I could move I seen nothing underneath..

So WHERE is this engine ID?

On my old "627" 305 block the "shelf" looks more like this.

You're gonna have to get that garbage out of the way.

The pad with the engine/application/etc stamp is right above the right water pump boss. It's pretty small, and hard to see unless you move that a/c compressor and probably the bracketry out of the way. On the earlier cars you can just pull the alternator and there it is. Earlier SBC's have a larger pad so its easier to find.

The detail numbers are here:

If you don't need all that, the basic casting number is on the opposite corner:

Water pump? The water pump is in the center of the engine. Does that mean I need to remove the TPI intake to see the tag directly BELOW the TPI body?

Okay, now I know what you are looking for...I forgot about those numbers...

My new engine doesn't have that anymore, it was milled flat...At least I know the year of the block, that's really all I need to know...
