Bad Gasket
I was letting my car idle for a while on the weekend ,after I shut it off i heard a hissing sound comming from under the hood.I discovered coolant leaking out of the engine at the front passenger side corner. I think this is a bad intake manifold gasket. I have had the car for about 2 months and have never seen any coolant leaking from it before, however the car would smoke a little until it got good and warm. I thought that this was bad valve seals.Upon close inspection i see rust stains on the block in the area where the leak has occurred. It must have leaked before. Why would a leak like this be intermittant?Anotherwords why would I only notice this after 2 months and why would the white smoke go away after the car warmed up?My hanes manual says that I might have to remove some A/C hoses in order to get the manifold off, depending on what model I have.Has anyone changed an intake gasket on a 1990Iroc LB9 TPI with A/C, did you need to remove any A/C hoses?
Eh You prolly Dont have to, But I dont know For sure.
is it leaking from the intake, Or from the head ?
Either way, It could cause Steam in your exhaust.
If Your car steams Upon Startup, Not smoke But steam, Thats prolly a sign of a headgasket, or intake I suppose, Gone south.
basically water getting into the combustion chamber at some point. it gets heated and turns into steam, and pumped out the exhaust.
as for it only Steaming at startup, Its possible that the Leak is so small that When the motor/intake warms up, it expands in such a manner that the leak is No Longer an issue.
Think about it logically, And trace from one point to the other, and You can usually figure this sort of simple stuff out, even If You dont have a Ton Of experiance
