Intake Qustion

My buddy just gave me a brand new CARB Preformer RPM intake, I was wondering if this will fit under my hood with tbi adapter plater holly pt#17-45, I have a drop base air cleaner with a 3" filter. I also have a stock hood? I also know that it is gonna trip a light but egr on the car don't work right now anyway. I tired doing a search on this but found nothing. Thanks for the help

I seriously doubt it. My Q-jet with drop base cleaner and edelbrock RPM barely fits. And all I have between the carb and manifold is a thin gasket.

Fiberglass cowl hoods let your engine compartment breath and lighten your car.

I'm gonna get a cowl hood when I paint my car but thats a ways down the road. Isn't a Q-jet taller than a TB?

ye, the q-jet is pretty tall now that you mention it. Funny thing is some poeples fit and some don't using the exact same manifold and carb.

unless you can find it somewhere else, I will post how tall it is when I get home in a couple of hours. Give you some kind of idea. I'll measure the distance to the top of the air filter also.

It just barely touches when I close the hood.

Different people have different definitions of "fit".

Some people think that "fit" means that you can jam it all under there, even if you have to use one of those stupid "drop-base" air cleaners that moves the lid down to where it all but sits directly on top of the carb air horn, and that it's OK like that even if the hood doesn't quite sit right because it's smashed against the lid even before the engine moves in the bay from acceleration or bumps or whatever.

Also, there is considerable variation in individual "stock hoods"; from car brand to the other, from year to year, even from one piece to another.

so how can I find out for sure? I already have a drop base cleaner, REMEMBER this is a TBI, I have a stock hood, With nothing speical on it, no bump on the drivers side, just a plain jane hood, and how tall is the TBI spacer? I don't want to try the manifold and find out I can't run a air cleaner or even shut my hood, Runnin with out a hood is not a option, then my alarm would be pointless, any help is greatly welcome.........

As far as my motor flexin it don't move much at all, Energy Suspension mounts all the way around tranny mount to....

Let me know,

Simplest way I can think of would be to measure the clearance with what you have now, using some point that won't change, such as the point where the top of the intake ports meets the heads, as your reference; and measure what you want to put on there, using the same reference. Use something that will crush easily and hold its shape when crushed, some sort of foam or papier-maché or something.

From the base of my carb to the top of my air cleaner lid is just under 6 inches. That's on a 87 Iroc with Iroc hood. Any more and it wouldn't fit.
