i dont know the name of it, but i broke the nipple off of the 3 way junction of coolant hose that is right above my passenger side valve cover that i belive comes from the heater core. Anyway my question is, does coolant flow through there when the heater is not turned on?

It depends on which nipple you broke. The three way thingy is a valve that is shifted as to whether you have the heat on. One of the nipples always has coolant flow. If you have the heat on it lets the coolant flow through the heater core. If the heat is off it bypasses the heater core.

i beleive he is correct. it is called a heater by pass valve...i think. 20 bucks at the auto parts store....i broke one too.

Yeah, its the heater bypass valve. I picked one up at a junkyard for 5.00. I would just buy it from a junkyard. The nipple is the only part that fails on those valves anyways. When you go to get it though, slit the hose with a knife first, so you don't break the new one...

Clean it out really well, and install it...
