Kickdown Nightmare ! !

ok when i made the switch on my car i had a friend who was helpin me and that A-hole took all my linkages off without even thinking about them.... now i have no idea how close or far back my kickdown should be i know that whatever i have it at now is wrong... it won't kickdown... tranny is startin to slip i'm getting nervous...

i have no knowledge about the kickdown cable so i need some assistance... k lets say the cable is just sittin there not hooked up not being pulled and you put it on the braket (i have adjustable brakets now) and then you take the little black piece put the little bolt on it and you go to bolt it to the carb... should the cable once its hooked up be in the slack position like the black piece is tight up against the end of the cable but the cable isn't being pulled out at all.... or when that black piece is attached should the cable be extended more then it or should the cable be pulled out a bit once its all attached... i hope i'm making some sense to you all, i'm trying to explain this as best as i can...

also one more thing how do you set the kickdown cable or whatever once you have it mounted up... a friend of mine told me what he thought... and you pull the cable all the way out then hit the gas and it should click ??? well it didn't do diddily squat .... was there anything we left out while doing that....

SORRY for the lenght and going on and on but just wanted to make sure I gave you guys enough info to work with... thank you and have a nice day !

Don't have any photos available do ya? Ok...near the end of the cable (engine-side that is) there should be a little plastic housing with a metal adjustment clip on it... Past that is the thin wire and stopper that goes onto the throttle blade. Now....even if he removed the bracketing and all for the TV cable assembly....if you have the plastic housing, the cable should have retained its setting...but I assume it's been messed with... What you have to do, if I remember right..... Do you see any of the cable exposed, BELOW the black sheathing, near the plastic retainer, on the OPPOSITE side from the throttle? What you need to do is push in the metal retaining clip on the plastic assembly, and grab the cable housing/sheathing, and pull it as close to the assembly as it will go, then release the clip. It should stay tight there now. After everything is all bracketed up, then with the engine off obviously....pull the throttle blade gradually and evenly up to WOT, and then release it. You should THEN hear the clicking/ratcheting as the linkage automatically adjusts itself.

I HOPE that works for ya!

I attached a horribly drawn Paint diagram for ya...hopefully it'll clear it up a little bit.
