Indexing Spark Plugs?

Has anyone done this? Is it worth the effort? How exactly is it done?

mark the plug where the gap is and point it towards the intake valve or towards the chamber, not up or down. i indexed plugs on briggs engines i ran on methanol, made a differance. doubt if you'd see anything on the street.
