torque converter like a clutch
alright, i dont know if you know what the subject meant but i'll explain. I was told for all you people with an Automatic Trans and like to drag there is a way to get off the line like a manual. There is a certain torque converter that can disengage and then engage like a clutch, even at high RPMs. I would like to know if anyone else has heard of this and/or used one.
i like to drag but am tired of having to start off the line at low RPMs due to an Automatic Trans.

well by upping the stall of the converter it acts like a clutch dump in a way... so if you have a 3500 rpm stall converter... when you stomp the gas it will flash to that rpm and in a scence "act like a manual tranny" clutch dump

nah, thats not what i was talking about. But you've made me think, is there a way to add a clutch to an automatic trans. Like just after the driveshaft to the axle starts. Only needing to be disengaged when dragging or other such reasons. That would actually be kinda cool wouldn't it?

There's probably a 15K option that will allow you to do what you want, but in the most part, a stall convertor and if you have a few more bucks a transbrake, is the way to go.

why would u want that???
what exactly are you looking for out of your question... there are clutches in side the TC that are used for LockUp purposes of overdrive... so the converter doesn't slip at all time and it becomes locked in w/ the driveshaft...
