car running to cool

i just rebuilt my engine and before i rebuilt it it was hard to keep it cool it was the summer time then ,and now that i rebuilt it its starting to get a little cold and my car hardley ever gets warm. if its around 40 degrees outside i can drive to work (30 minute drive) with no fan and be lucky if i get 110 degrees just put a new thermastat in it and does the same thing and the gauge has to be working cuz one day i got home after driving around awhile with no fan i popped off my cap and the water was just starting to get warm

im notsure what the problem is you might want to use a higher degree thermostat like 180 or 195 but consider yourself blessed i wish i could get mine under 200

weird, I'm having the same problem as you with a new carbed engine. I've put in two new thermostats with the same result. A 160 and 180. I worry about running the engine at such a low temp myself. I don't have heat either, which may be unrelated - this weekend I will have time to check things more thoroughly - hopefully.

If the thermostat is working, the engine has to warm up because no coolant is flowing. Also, the radiator coolant temp is not going to be an accurate reading of the engine temp if it's cold outside and the thermostat is closed most of the time.
