engine lingo

I just had some questions about engine words. like for example what is a liter, such as in 2.8 liters? And what is v6?-valves, right? but what are they and where are they located? And how would I find out how many barrels my car has, and cc's. I have a 1984 v6 2.8 liter camaro. I just wanted to know more about my car. I am a beginner, so bare with me. and thanks.

A litre and liter are just another way to measure displacement. When you hear the term 5-0 refering to a Mustang, it is an engine that has 302 cubic inches. When refering to a Camaro, it is 305. V six means the engine's block is in a V design. The cylinders are slanted sideways. 3 on the right of the eninge, three on the left. Like a V if you were looking at it head on. V 8 has four cylinders on each side, 8 total. Am I making sense? Valves are located under the Valve cover aka the rocker arm cover. That is the shiney piece of metal you see in hotrods that says Corvette or has a bowtie on it and the rectangle one each side of your engine that has an Oil cap on the right side. Not sure about the barrels on your carb...4 maybe? Someone else will surely know that. Not many will fess up to this, but everyone was a begginer at somepoint..good luck with your car!

I can't type so I had to edit this..

-Flowmaster Force II 3 Chamber Cat Back Exhaust

-Best MPH 92.7(bald tires)

Your '84 2.8L V6 has a two barrel carb. Looks like the rest has been taken care of already.

oh yeah, I forgot about the cc's. I assume that you mean engine size or displacement. The engine in your car is 2800 cubic centimeters (173 cubic inches).
