Remote trunk latch

The trunk latch on my 1990 IROC-Z does not stay open long enough for me to open the rear hatch. When I hit the switch located between the power window controls, the rear hatch releases for a second or two, but thats all. Not enough time to open it up. Anyone else encounter this problem? Any suggestions on what to do?

rear hatch

yeah i had a problem with my hatch, i finally got it to work after i found that a penny was stuck in the lighter and was shorting every thing out, but anyway once i got it to work it wouldnt stay up long enough for me to run back and open it, so i noticed that the shocks or supports, where worn i replaced them, and it worked perfectley! i would give you a part number, but i lost them, but you can pick up these supports in alot of places, even a hardware store, i took mine off and matched them up, also a helpful hint, the previous owner didnt realize this was the problem so, in order to hold the hatch open, he would hold it up with a stick, and i guess after doing this for a long period of time it made the hatch lop sided, so it closed but to one side because this caused the bolts to bend to one side, but it was easily repairable, well good luck!-jorge

funny side note:

verts dont normally have a trunk release, but i added one to my car... but i have the same prob right now, i have to grab the trunk lid quickly...

so imagine someone trying to stand outside the drivers door, reacing into a vert far enough to push the switch on teh console, then trying to quickly reach over and grab the trunklid... lol

and then he does it 4 times in a row..

lmao... i bet im funny to watch
