I see...that's what's listed as a "2nd" step on his page.

I wonder who approved that procedure? I'd have to look, but I'm sure my Helm's does not show it that way.

That TPI sequence looks like a good way to have problems.

Always torque from the center out. Never start on and end.

Mkos1980 :

I just looked at my GM service manual and holly s**t!! You are right on the TPI sequence.

I stand corrected. I was wrong. Please forgive me.

Still looks messed up don't it??

I still wouldn't torque it that way.....I would use the "center out" method.

Hmmn...I wonder if that's in a newer manual? The one Helms for my '89, doesn't have a different 2nd/final sequence.

I got the manual about 3 years ago, I wonder if they've upgraded it by now?

FWIW, I did my intake about a year ago just doing it they way the "first" step shows, maybe 12-14K miles on it, and don't have any leaks.

Mkos1980 has it correct, EXCEPT for the TPI. It shares the EXACT same sequence as the TBI and Carb. And it is 35 ft/lbs.

And that is right from the Helms (factory) service manual, 6A3-10

I agree, all intakes (or where you use gaskets) should be torqued down (30-35 ft/lbs) from the center out, BUT in a cross pattern. I have never had a vacuum/oil leak with this method, not even with just using gaskets and no sealant.

11..5....3..1....8.12
Vehicle front, doesn't matter
9..7....2..4....6.10
