A.I.R problem

My AIR injection pipe on the passenger side broke off at the threads. If I leave the check vlave on the hose part going to the big control vlave thingie, will I have any problems until I get a new AIR injection pipe in? I need to drive my car and I don't want to cause any problems.

The only problem I can see is that I won't be emissions legal MAYBE. I also don't know what dumping some of that exhaust into the engine compartment will do. Should I plug the hose and the AIR pipe?

Try to seal the short section of tubing sticking out of the fitting on the manifold. If you leave that open, you'll have a very annoying exhaust leak and may dilute the exhaust enough to affect the O² sensor. Most stock ThridGens have the sensor on teh left side, so that isn't likely, but a modified car may have issues with the leak.

Also seal the tube from th echeck valve, or you will have an annoying air leak (whistle). Any kind of putty should work.

Another thing to reealize is that the AIR system only pumps air to the exhaust manifolds when the ECM is in open loop mode. Once the engine warms up and achieves closed loop, the AIR system diverts air to the cat and away from the manifolds. You'll be perfectly legal.

Alrighty. Thats how I was going to seal it. I drove it around a bit today without the check valve in place, and with both the pipe and hose unplugged. I didn't hit closed loop so I don't know whats up there.....

Good poitn about the valve though. Once it hits closed loop, the exhaust stops dumping into my area of trouble. I'm not too worried about emisions, if I get a state inspection or anything, they'll nail me for the 4x4 inch plate I just put in to stop my strut tower from popping out. I will fix it as soona s the part comes in though. $20 for a pesky pipe
