What size is the spindle nut on 3rd gens?

What size is the spindle nut on 3rd gens?
Replacing the rotors and brakes on the Convertible since they pulsate so bad I can barely stop. LOL! Anyways. I'm going to Sears to buy the correct size socket to take the spindle nut off and I want to know what size it is BEFORE I go.

Don't recall the size, but you should not need a socket...in fact once the cotterpin is out, you may even be able to remove by hand.
Once the new stuff in on, just seat the nut (use channellocks, are fine) to 15ft/lbs or so, then back off to the first opening in the castle nut that lines up to the hole.

Yes that is the exact method I was going to use to install it once I'm done. But the only problem is my selection of tools at home is VERY limited. I dont even have an adjustable wrench or pair of channel locks big enough for that nut. I was just wondering ig someone knew the size and I'd go buy one.
That nut has never been off before (112,000 miles) and I'd like to have the right tool on hand to remove it just in case it won't come off by hand.

and they are just a handy thing to have.
if you get one of thoes 3 piece channel lock kits, its only a couple dollars more and you get a small, med, and large one..

Well I'm going to use a socket because I'm a stickler with using precise torque and I want to use my 1/2" torque wrench and torque it down to 14 ft/lbs before I back it off. I have a tendency to overtorque if I try to guess.

It's really not a "precision" setup, plus using te socket would actually make it more difficult to see the hole in the spindle...
Use an adjustable wrench, all you do when "torquing" it down, is seating the bearings into the races, so you make sure that the grease isn't what keeping things apart.
14ft/lb or 20ft/lbs, will accomplish the same thing without damage.
Look at it this way, i think sparkplugs have about the same spec, huh?
How often do you use a tq wrench when changing plugs?
But it's up to you, not a bad idea to buy a new tool anyway, but I'd suggest buying a set, rather than one at a time.

uuh dude.
tighten it hand tight.... spin it a few times, tighten it snug with a wrench or somthing.. im talking about a 1/4 turn past hand tight.

Never mind. I didn't ask how to do it. I know how to do it. I wanted to know the size. No body knows. If you don't know the size then don't respond.
