zz430
zz430
I was going to make a 383 but decided to get a fastburn and swap in the hot cam and roller rockers. My question is do I need to dyno the engine to get timing and jetting right or can I jet it for my altitude and be confident it is making the 430 horses? If i Dyno it should I do it before I stick it in the car or after on a chassis dyno? Could I get close with a air fuel meter?
Im going to order it on friday but I dont have any headers for it yet. Jim pace said they will get some in about a month These are the Headman made for the fastburn head. they Quoted me 369.95 for the coated for my 89 camaro. Do I need to wait on the headers befor I bolt in the zz430 Or will I be able to slide the headers in after the engine is bolted down?
Thanks

If you want to get ALL the horses then I'd make a trip to the dyno. But you can accomplish the same thing at the dragstrip by playing with the timing and jetting in a very methodical way (ONE change at a time).
Also, dyno setting ignition timing will usually leave it over-advanced for street/strip use when the motor is fully warmed up and/or under load for more than a few seconds.
All crate motors come with specs for what the total ignition timing should be for best power. Of course, once you start changing parts that spec may no longer be valid.
Jetting is a try-it-and-see thing, in my experience.
