blue smoke on start up.

ok im assuming this is the valve stem seals cause the car only smokes SLIGHTLY at idle and smnokes when i start it, no smoke when i am driving and get on it.

so..opinions???

has anyone changed the seals with the heads still on the car? i know its possible VIA air compressor but the tool to compress the springs looks like itll be a PITA to work with.

again..Opinions??

I have done this repair myself. No, the spring compressor is not a problem at all. Remove the rocker, put the compressor on the stud, replace the nut, compress the spring, remove the keepers. A small magnet comes in handy. I found the biggest headache was putting the air fitting in the spark plug hole, especially the passenger side. Just a lot of little things made this job tough: my remote starter kept falling off the solenoid, I had trouble getting the passenger side valve cover off, passenger side spark plugs are a bear to get at, it was like 100 degrees when I did the job. Any good repair book explains it all. Now, not smoke at startup for the last 20,000 miles.

well ill try that method then...see, im just going to take my headers off to access the plug holes, its alomost impossible any other way....we will see when the time comes.....no chance at pulling the stud out the hole or bending the stud?

also i have a small compressor, doubt this will matter much but yeah, its 5 gallon, 2 hp

this is of course its the valve stems leaking and not the rings.....i pray its not the rings...

if its just at startup, then it sounds like classic valve seals..

if it still does it when you floor it going down the road, then its probly the rings too...

i like to pull the heads off when i do it just because i can then see the bores... but i also like doing things the hard way somtimes...

eh, i had the heads off a month ago, everything looked fine in the bores , ....valve stem seals looked brand new as well though....all nice n rubbery still....maybe i got some rubbing compound up there somehow and it caused an uneven valve stem seal seating surface or what not, ....that was alot of s lettered words..heh. anyways....doesnt smoke when i floor it, only at start up.....for about 5 mins, now if i floor it after i start it up....poof....smoke....but after its been running 5 or so mins, and i drive it and floor it, no smoke.....
