Car: 1991 Firebird
Engine: 383 stroker
Transmission: T-56
ANOTHER oil pump question
Ok, here is my situation. In the process of building my 383 hopefully making ~450hp, but still on the stand, I have already bought and installed this pump.

Now I few days after I put it in, I come across this "Important Notice" that I didn't see before.
This lube system pump is a hight volume, high pressure pump. The installed pink spring in the pressure regulating valve will allow the pump to bring the engine oiling system to equilibrium at approximately 70psi. (Note: Not all engines are capable of achieving a pressure of 70psi due to loose bearing clearenes, or bearing wear. The pressure regulating valve of the pump may be converted back to "stock" configuration if desired by removing the pink springand replacing it with the enclosed non-colored (plain) spring
Do I want my pressure that high? What does "bring the engine oiling system to equalibrium" mean...that is too clear to me. Since the motor is still on the stand, should I just unbutton the pan and install the stock spring? Any good suggestions would be great.

i think you'd be much better off with a 25 dollar m55 from melling with a 4 dollar mr gasket #26 spring. weld a brace to the pick and bolt it to the pump body. HV pumps will drain a 5 qt pan if run at high rpm range

Well I'm really not worried about whether I should get a new pump or not, cause I already have a new one. I'm not worried about it being HV, I'm just concerned with the high pressure. And as far as the pan goes, it's a Moroso 6 qt pan.

my set up will peg a 60 psi gauge, don't know the actuall psi, but i done a lot of SBCs with that set up never had any problems. i do run synthetic and change oil around 3500 miles, or every three weeks in my work car
